About Onyx and Violet

O&V Designs was created in honor of a Chihuahua named Onyx and an American Staffordshire Terrier named Violet. Both dogs were adopted from shelters after experiencing a less than desirable start to life. Here are their stories...

Onyx

Onyx, a Chihuahua, was discovered alone in a field at 4 months old by Animal Control in Princeton, WV in June of 2010.

I drove 2 hours to adopt this little bundle of joy and boy was she a lot of personality stuffed into a tiny 5 pound body. She also had the biggest ears I have ever seen! Onyx and I spent nearly every day together for the next 11 years. We took trips together, we celebrated accomplishments and she comforted me during the hard times. She was there for me during times when others were not, which made her the most important being in my life.

Her enjoyments were trail running with me, taking naps in the grass, destroying plushies and eating treats. She loved doing zoomies around the house and all over the furniture and playing hide and seek. She would wait patiently for me to wake up in the morning so she could pounce on me and lick me to pieces. I miss her every day.

She passed away at the age of 11 on July 14, 2021.

Violet

Violet, an American Staffordshire Terrier-American Pitbull Terrier Mix was adopted at the age of 5 years old from the Lynchburg Humane Society. From the brief history we were given, she was returned to the shelter twice due to "behavior issues".

From what was determined at the vet's office, she had spent a considerable amount of time sleeping on a concrete floor and developed hard patches on her joints. She has several broken teeth due to possible eating of rocks. She also has a fear of loud sounds.

After getting her home and settled we found she has the sweetest disposition. She is dog aggressive, which tells us that she does need to be the only dog in the home. She adores people of all ages and sizes, cuddles with everyone. She has recently had surgery for 9 mast cell tumors and will continue to have them to removed as they develop.

She is currently 10 years old and will enjoy being spoiled for the rest of her days with BarkBoxes, Jeep rides and love.
